Last Saturday, I attended Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church.
"The crucifix, front and center, reminds us that in a few minutes Christ will actually be sacrificed on the altar. Catholics do not teach that Christ is crucified over and over again as some Protestants claim; Catholics believe that there is only one sacrifice but that his death is timeless—the atoning sacrifice on the cross continues for 2000 years and until Christ comes again. Jesus is not crucified anew, but his one crucifixion is re-presented every time the mass is celebrated. Elsewhere in the church you will see a statue of the sacred heart of Jesus--- a statue which shows Jesus’ chest open and his bleeding heart exposed. It conveys the same idea that the crucifixion is on-going. Jesus is still shedding his blood for us." --Dr. Bence
